Aatmanirbharta in Defence: Fifth Positive Indigenisation List

The Ministry of Defence has announced the fifth Positive Indigenisation List, emphasizing self-reliance in the defence sector.

Fifth Positive Indigenisation List:
- Items Included: The list comprises 346 strategically significant items, including Line Replacement Units, Systems, Sub-systems, Assemblies, Sub-assemblies, Spares & Components, and raw materials.
- Import Substitution Value: The items have an import substitution value of Rs 1,048 crore.
SRIJAN Portal:
- Launch: Initiated in 2020 by the Ministry of Defence.
- Purpose: Facilitates DPSUs and Service Headquarters (SHQs) in offering defence items to industries, including MSMEs and start-ups, for indigenisation.
- Indigenisation Routes: DPSUs will indigenise items via the ‘Make’ procedure or in-house development involving industry, including MSMEs.
Significance:
- Economic Impact: Boosts economic growth, enhances investment in defence, and reduces import dependence.
- Design Capabilities: Involves academia and research institutions, augmenting domestic defence industry design capabilities.
- Progress: As of June 2024, over 36,000 defence items were offered for indigenisation, with more than 12,300 items indigenised in the last three years.
- Orders: DPSUs have placed orders worth Rs 7,572 crore on domestic vendors as a result of this initiative.
- This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to Aatmanirbharta in defence, promoting self-reliance, boosting local industries, and reducing dependency on imports.
