  • This celebration dates back to the 14th century, during the rule of the Vijayanagara Empire.
  • While the celebrations were halted due to the fall of the monarchy, they were restarted in 1610 with Raja Wodeyar I.
  • According to Hindu mythology, the Chamunda Hills’ Goddess Chamundeshwari, commonly known as Goddess Durga, killed Mahishasura. The city of Mysuru was named after the slaying of Mahishasura.

Context:

  • National Lok Adalat will be held on 12th November 2022 across the country to despose off pending cases through settlement.

About:

  • The phrase “Lok Adalat,” which translates to “People’s Court,” is based on Gandhian ideals.
  • It provides the ordinary people with informal, affordable, and quick justice and is one of the elements of the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) system.
  • In Gujarat, the first Lok Adalat camp was established in 1982 as a non-governmental, conciliatory organisation without any legal authority to make judgements.
  • The Legal Services Authorities Act of 1987 granted it legislative status as a result of its escalating popularity over time. The Lok Adalats’ structure and operation are governed by the Act’s provisions.
