Context:

The National Health Authority (NHA) announces extension of its Digital Health Incentives Scheme (DHIS) under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) till 31st December 2023.

Digital Health Incentive Scheme AYUSHMAN BHARAT DIGITAL MISSION

Launch and Impact:

  • DHIS was initiated on January 1, 2023, as a part of Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission.
  • This scheme mainly focuses on boosting digital health tech and practices in nationwide healthcare.
  • Positive response from healthcare providers and tech companies has led to the extension of this scheme.

Financial Incentives:

  • Health facilities and digital solution companies under DHIS earn up to Rs. 4 crores of financial incentives.
  • These incentives are based on the number of digital health records that are created and linked to Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) .

Impact and Cost Contribution:

  • DHIS benefits contribute to the potential cost reduction in the field.
  • And this cost savings could be transferred for digitization expenses in healthcare facilities making it more efficient.

Statistics:

  • So far 1205 health facilities registered in DHIS.
  • Of which, 567 public and 638 private hospitals/clinics/diagnostic labs are involved.
  • 25 digital solution companies registered, 22 from private sector.
  • As of June 2023, nearly 120 health facilities and 7 tech companies received incentives totaling Rs. 4.84 Cr.

National Health Authority (NHA)

  • The National Health Authority (NHA) is an apex body in the implementation of the AB PM-JAY initiative.
  • The aim of the mission is to create a seamless digital health system that benefits everyone across the nation.
  • Connected within the framework of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the NHA plays an important role with full autonomy within its boundaries.
  • The Chief Executive Officer (CEO), holding a position equivalent to a Secretary to the Government of India, takes charge of managing the authority’s operations and also serves as the Ex-Officio Member Secretary of the Governing Board.
  • It bridges the gap between the national framework and the implementation of the initiative within each state.
