Satyajit Ray award goes to Michael Douglas


Hollywood icon Michael Douglas said after collecting the Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award at the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) here on Tuesday that cinema is one of the few mediums that has the capacity to connect people.

  • It was established in 1999 during the 30th IFFI and was renamed during the 52nd edition in 2021 to commemorate the birth centennial of legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray. The award was later renamed the “IFFI – Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award.”
  • Distinguished film industry figures such as Bernardo Bertolucci, Carlos Saura, Martin Scorsese, Dilip Kumar, Krzysztof Zanussi, and Wong Kar-wai have received the prize.

  • In the 52nd edition of IFFI in 2021, Michael Douglas, a prominent Hollywood actor known for films like “Wall Street” and “Basic Instinct,” received the Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award.
