UTPRERAK (Unnat Takniki Pradarshan Kendra)
Context:
The Ministry of Power, Government of India has set up a dedicated Centre of Excellence to accelerate industry adoption of clean technologies and thus scale up India’s contribution to the global energy transition. UTPRERAK, short for Unnat Takniki Pradarshan Kendra, the Centre of Excellence to Accelerate Adoption of Energy Efficient Technologies seeks to play a catalytic role in improving energy efficiency of Indian industry.
About UTPRERAK (Unnat Takniki Pradarshan Kendra):
- UTPRERAK, a dedicated Centre of Excellence, was recently inaugurated in New Delhi by the Union Minister of State for Power.
- UTPRERAK will serve as a strategic capacity-building institution and seeks to be a one-stop solution provider for energy professionals from across India for trainings and education in energy efficiency.
- It is also known as the Advanced Industrial Technology Demonstration Centre (AITDC).
- UTPRERAK aims to accelerate the adoption of energy-efficient technologies in the Indian industry. It serves as a reference and resource institution, providing comprehensive information, guidance, and expertise on industrial energy-efficient technologies.
- UTPRERAK demonstrates and showcases energy-efficient technologies in key industry sectors, promoting innovative solutions and practices. It functions as an exhibition cum information center, creating awareness and providing access to relevant information, case studies, and success stories.
- UTPRERAK acts as a knowledge repository, collating and organizing information on energy-efficient technologies and industry-specific conservation measures. It facilitates knowledge exchange and dissemination of best practices through workshops, seminars, and training programs.
- The BEE coordinates with designated consumers, agencies, and organizations to fulfil its functions under the Energy Conservation Act.
- The Government of India set up Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE). on 1st March 2002 under the provisions of the Energy Conservation Act, 2001.
- The mission of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency is to assist in developing policies and strategies with a thrust on self-regulation and market principles, within the overall framework of the Energy Conservation Act, 2001 with the primary objective of reducing energy intensity of the Indian economy.
